Alpher Instruments

Later in the world heritage site town of Saltaire (UK), in a tiny room not big enough to swing a pickup, the Alpher duo worked late into the night and weekends (after their day jobs), refining their designs and building prototypes.  After the second prototype, they made their first official sale and the rush was on! Chris’ house became ground zero for the explosion of wood, dust and guitar parts for the next five years.

The duo always had a big interest in the more unique looking exotic woods for use in their instruments, and this slowly became one of their outstanding brand traits. Alpher eventually grew enough for Chris and Al to quit their day jobs to fully concentrate on building their custom basses and guitars. A short while later, they moved Alpher to the small village of Sutton and converted some old stables into a workshop, including a demo room with a cracking view over the valley around them. Fast-forward to the present day and Alpher remain a 2-man team. And the guys finally have tattoos worthy of their rockstar dreams, but still love building their own instruments!

We are fully amped to be an authorized dealer of Alpher Instruments!

It all began in a small village near Skipton (UK) in the Yorkshire dales. Like so many of us at the time, the duo at Alpher Instruments (Alex Wood and Chris Dobson) were destined to be the next Nirvana! At the tender age of twelve, Chris and Al picked up their weapons of choice (Chris - bass and Al - guitar) and began to live out their rock & roll dreams. They eventually became proficient enough to perform in various different bands with original material and even did a few small UK tours. Even though they enjoyed the live performances, they were always fascinated with the technical side of instruments and equipment. They soon started modding and repairing any gear they could lay their hands on.

In the meantime, around 2002 Al started training as a carpenter/joiner/cabinet maker, while Chris trained in print and design. After years of playing and working, it eventually led to the birth of the yet unnamed Alpher around 2010, as the guys concluded that becoming rockstars was better left to people with cooler hair and tattoos. Fueled by coffee and the seduction of self-employment, they started out with repair work, setups and modding. They soon set their sights on building their own instruments, with their work on other brands of instruments helping them develop their own creations. This now became Alpher Instruments.
